Khadi’s electronic marketplace portal is gaining ground

Khadi and the Village Industry Commission (KVIC) adventure in the online marketing segment quickly established a pan-Indian reach allowing artisans to sell their products in the most remote areas of India through the KVIC E -Portal – www.kviconline.gov.in/khadimask/. The online sale that was launched with only Khadi masks on July 7 this year has evolved into a full-fledged electronic market platform with 180 products like today and many more in the pipeline.

According to KVIC, the product line includes fine hand-spun and woven fabrics like chiffon, silk, denim and cotton, Ritu Beri’s unisex Vichar Vastra, Khadi’s signature wristwatch, a variety of honey, herbs and green tea, herbal medicines and soaps, papad, Kacchi Ghani mustard oil and a range of herbal cosmetics among many others. KVIC adds at least 10 new products to its online inventory daily and has set a goal of adding at least 1,000 products by October 2 of this year. In less than two months, KVIC served nearly 4,000 customers.

KVIC President Vinai Kumar Saxena said selling Khadi products online is a big step towards “Swadeshi” and aims to empower local artisans. “Khadi’s E-market portal provides our artisans with an additional platform to sell their products. concrete step towards building Aatmanirbhar Bharat, ”said Saxena, adding that the product line is offered from ??50 to ??5000, keeping in mind the choice and affordability of all sections of buyers.

“Earlier products of Khadi institutions were only sold through outlets and therefore their visibility was limited to only a few states. However, with KVIC’s electronic portal, the products are now reaching the most remote areas of the country and thus offer a wider spectrum of commercialization to Khadi institutions which will ultimately increase their production and increase the incomes of artisans.

Customers have also expressed great satisfaction with selling Khadi products online. A regular Khadi customer in Delhi who purchased products from the Khadi India outlet in Connaught Place was unable to find the same products in Assam where he is currently assigned. However, the E-market platform allowed him to order the products of his choice online and receive them at his doorstep.

KVIC has received online orders from 31 states and union territories, including the remote islands of Andaman and Nicobar, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir. KVIC has set the minimum order value at ??599 for the free delivery of goods. It has an agreement with the postal service for the delivery of items via Speed ​​Post.

According to KVIC, he developed the electronic portal in-house and thus saved the treasury millions of rupees. The exercise is similar to the PMEGP electronic portal developed internally by KVIC, where it has enabled savings of at least ??20 crore on website development and maintenance.

KVIC’s online inventory also includes Modi Kurta and Modi stitched jackets for men and palazzo and straight pants for women. Several other products like Khadi Rumal, spices, herbal neem wood comb, shampoo, cosmetics, cow dung and cow urine soap, yoga dress and several varieties of ready-to-eat foods have been included so far.
