The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said on Saturday that its procurement orders using the government e-Market (GeM) portal hit an all-time high of Rs 15,047 crore in 2021-22.
He said the amount represents an increase of more than 250% over last year’s purchases through the portal.
“MoD procurement orders through the Government e-Market (GeM) portal reached an all-time high of Rs 15,047.98 crore for the financial year 2021-22,” the ministry said in a statement.
The GeM was launched in August 2016 to revamp the old tendering process and bring greater probity and transparency in public procurement through digitalization.
In the short time since its inception, the Ministry of Defense has embraced digital momentum and embarked on this path with absolute determination, the ministry said.
“Despite multiple challenges on the ground, the results have been stunning,” the ministry noted.
“The Ministry of Defense is committed to contributing significantly to the government’s vision to promote digitalization and transparency in line with Digital India,” he said.
